Jazz Divas

Did you know that...

Billie Holiday worked her way up from cleaning houses in a brothel to becoming one of the most celebrated popular artists of her day?

Or that Ella Fitzgerald was in reform school for awhile before she was discovered at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem?

Jazz Divas pays tribute to these great women and more with performances of jazz hits from the birth of the blues to big bands and bepop, such as T'aint Nobody's Bizness (Bessie Smith), Lady Sings the Blues (Billie Holiday), Blue Skies (Ella Fitzgerald),

At Last (Etta James) and many more!

Women Who Rock

Female rockers broke barriers in a field dominated by men.

Gutsy, hard-living Janis Joplin was so influenced by the music and the attitude of the early blues singers that she bought a tombstone for Bessie Smith's previously unmarked grave.

Women Who Rock picks up the story from the tumultuous sixties, with groups like the Shirelles (Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow) - whose music gave a voice to young women. It highlights singer- songwriters like Carole King (It's Too Late) and Joni Mitchell (Both Sides Now) - who wrote the soundtrack for women at a time when their roles were being completely redefined.

Flexible Programming

Jazz Divas and Women Who Rock are each 45 minute shows, or they can be combined into one show at one hour and fifteen minutes, providing the flexibility to accommodate the conference schedule and agenda. Celia tailors each performance to fit to the needs and theme of your event, ensuring that the content resonates deeply with attendees, making it a meaningful addition to your program.
